Susanna and Taras had their wedding in beautiful weather at the gorgeous Vanajanlinna. It was one of the longest weddings for me this year, but time went by in a blink of an eye as the day was full of activities and things to photograph.
In recent years, I’ve reconsidered whether it’s worthwhile to be a member of several wedding photography associations. I had already left out of WPJA and AGWPJA, and this summer also discontinued my membership in ISPWP. I don’t think it’s meaningful to be a member these days, when it seems these associations have become only chargeable yellow pages for wedding photographers. I feel their overall quality has sunk and now practically anyone who pays the fee can be a member. Although I’ve been called Finland’s most award-winning wedding photographer due to their competitions, I don’t find myself as interested in the competitions as before. It seems that “different” photos, which strongly deviate from the photographer’s usual style, succeed best. But at its core, documentary wedding photography is about shooting a consistent whole image of the wedding, not single stand-out shots for competitions.
