Imatra Countryside Wedding: Jie & Kimmo

This time I was working in near Imatra in lovely countryside where the reception was held in tent. Weather was great and it was Finnish summer at its best.

It’s funny how world is so small, during the meeting before the wedding, we were surprised to learn that I had actually shot grooms close work friend’s wedding last summer and they work together in San Diego but they both held their wedding in Finland!

Midsummer in Lapland

Summer is busiest time of the year and I’m practically working every weekend except during the midsummer weekend. Actually I rarely get inquiries for this weekend which allows me to have a short break and time to relax.

This time we went with my girlfriend to their summerhouse which was located little north from the Rovaniemi (in vanttausjärvi) and I was stunned with the peace and the awesome views during the sunset. As I was making prints from these shots I discovered new fave on matt papers. I have used William Turner and German Etching from Hahnemuhle a lot (which are my primary choices for my B&W wedding work) but heavy texture and quite white color on those papers didn’t work for this kind of shots so I tested Bamboo paper first time which was great. Bamboo’s subtle texture and warm yellow color gave final touch for these shots and this paper is going to be my primary choice for my landscape work.

I used 24-70mm 2.8L lens for these shots.

Boathouse HSS Wedding: Charlotta & Marcus

You never know from the weather and this time we got the most windiest day in the past couple years in Helsinki! Venue was beautiful Boathouse HSS in small island, liuskasaari and everything went lovely, regardless the high winds outside. For me there was extra vibe on this wedding as among the guests there were one of the most known Finnish fashion photographer.

These are my faves from the day and for photographers, this time I used variety of lenses and these faves were shot with either 16-35mm, 24mm, 50mm, 24-70mm or 135mm lenses.

Naantalin Kaivohuone Wedding: Aurora & Benadict

My first summer season wedding started a few weeks ago in Turku and reception was held in beautiful Naantalin Kaivohuone. Most of the guests were from England and with international vibe on their program, it felt like I was working in abroad.

In terms of photography, during the summer season I have little changed my equipment choices. As there is much more available light, I mainly use 24-70mm zoom and 135mm prime. Then later in the evening I switch to 24mm & 50mm when there is not enough light for zooms.

"Thanks for all the great pictures and your great work at the wedding. I can't believe you managed to squeeze out a couple acceptable portraits from Ben and me in the end, where we're not both pulling silly faces. Must be a first for us!"
